UNITED STATES OF AMERICA- If Joe Biden defeats President Trump next month, the possibility…no the probability exists that gun owners will see the largest gun grab in history, and to add injury to insult, will be forced to pay for it.
The Albion Times has learned that under Sleepy Joe’s proposed gun control policies, every AR-15 rifle in the country would be required to be registered pursuant to the National Firearms Act of 1934.
Without any kind of a carve-out, it would mandate that every American who owns an AR-15 would be required to pay a $200 tax for each one they own.
According to Andrew Arulanandam of the National Rifle Association, it is estimated on the low end that there are about 18 million privately-owned AR-15’s in the United States.
At a tax of $200 each, that would get the government around $3.6 million in taxes, if that policy were enacted by legislation. So, when you hear Biden’s line of BS that the only ones paying increased taxes would be those making over $400,000 per year, do not believe it for a minute.
That $3.6 billion does not even include other weapons that may be deemed “assault weapons” by Democrats, which would also fall under the auspices of the National Firearms Act. With history as a guide, Democrats consider any weapon which is black and scary looking to be an “assault weapon.”
Besides the confiscatory tax, Biden would also require any owners of “assault weapons” as defined by brain-dead Democrats to register the weapons with federal authorities (the first step toward gun confiscation), submit fingerprints and photograph (first step in a firearms registry to identify potential “mass shooters” and “serial killers”), and submit to an FBI background check.
Biden’s campaign website details the requirements of his proposed gun regulations, as shown below:
Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act. Currently, the National Firearms Act requires individuals possessing machine-guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles to undergo a background check and register those weapons with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
The paragraph on Biden’s website is linked to a memo from former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ Giffords Law Center, which calls for the regulation of “assault weapons” under the National Firearms Act (NFA).
The memo states:
The NFA, enacted in 1934, was the first federal regulation of the manufacture and transfer of firearms. Machine guns, short-barreled rifles, and silencers are currently regulated under the NFA.
In order to possess NFA firearms, individuals must undergo a background check process that includes the submission of photo identification and fingerprints and requires the registration of the firearm with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
Individuals must also pay a $200 transfer tax, an amount that has not changed since the NFA was established in 1934.
That last sentence should also serve as a cautionary tale. By emphasizing the fact that the tax hasn’t been increased for 86 years, does anyone think for a minute that they won’t double it, or raise it to something punitive like $500 or even $1,000?
The Giffords’ memo calls for that policy to be expanded as outlined on Biden’s campaign website: Giffords proposes that Congress require all existing assault weapons to be regulated under the National Firearms Act.
The memo defines “assault weapons” to include the AR-15, defining it as:
“Assault weapons are a class of semiautomatic firearms that are designed to kill people quickly and efficiently. The most common variety, the AR-15, is the civilian version of the M16, a combat rifle that made its debut on the battlefield in Vietnam.”
The proposal would encompass “all existing assault weapons,” and all it would take was for Democrats to redefine the term “assault weapons” and they could conceivably extend the regulation to all semi-automatic firearms, including handguns.
What that would mean is that every American who owns a weapon such as the AR-15, or any other weapon they choose to define as such, would be required to submit fingerprints and photograph, undergo an FBI background check, and register the weapons with ATF, as well as pay a $200 (or more) tax on each such weapon.
Biden and his minions aren’t even hiding the fact that they are coming after guns.
In a recent interview on CNN with Anderson Cooper when he actually left his basement bunker, Biden was asked by Cooper, “So, to gun owners out there who say, well a Biden administration means they’re going to come for guns?”
Biden didn’t hesitate, responding, “Bingo! You’re right, if you have an ‘assault weapon.’ The fact of the matter is they should be illegal, period.”
There you have it. The first step is registration. The second step is confiscation.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry is rightly concerned about the proposal. They said:
“Joe Biden’s gun grab isn’t original but it is shockingly honest that they admit the end game. His campaign promise to confiscate guns rips the mask off the lie told by gun control for decades,” said Lawrence G. Kean, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel.
“Yes, they are coming for your guns. The Biden-Harris campaign literally spelled out how they would do this and would violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, but instead destroy it.”
The NSSF notes that the so-called “assault rifles” actually utilize 100-year-old technology, and have been sold commercially since the early 1960’s.
The organization notes that the Biden campaign is purposefully seizing upon the ignorance of non-gun owners by trying to conflate the appearances of the AR-15 with the military’s M-16 and M-4 rifles to confuse the public.
In addition to taxing and registering so-called assault weapons, the Biden-Harris plan would also ban the manufacture and sale of “high-capacity” magazines.
What would the plan be for those who choose not to comply? Under the Biden-Harris plan, they would be given two choices—forcibly sell the property to the U.S. government, ostensibly being forced to sell the property using money they pay to the government in the form of taxes—or forcible confiscation by law enforcement.
In order to subsidize such a gun confiscation scheme, it is estimated it would cost between $9-18 billion of taxpayer funds to subsidize such a scheme.
