Sheikh Rahman (D), a muslim immigrant from Bangladesh, is the first muslim elected to Georgia State Senate. Rahman defeated incumbent Curt Thompson (D) in the Primary Election and he ran unopposed in the General Election. There were no Republicans running for this seat.
On January 14th, Rahman took his oath of office on the quran.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to my swearing-in ceremony. Your support means the world to me. I’m looking forward to serving as a state senator for all Georgians. #SenatorRahman #gapol pic.twitter.com/xaOPfXHu27
